Description:
The Ansonia Clock Company was originally located in Ansonia, Connecticut and then moved to New York City (after 1879). This particular model was named the 'KING' and featured a lion's head on each of the side columns plus a bust of the legendary "Minerva" on the crest of the case. The door glass is original to the clock and the brass 8-day movement runs well striking the hours on what is known as a "cathedral gong" due to the mellowness of its tone. Notice in our photograph the Ansonia Clock Company name cast into the gong base. A small repair has been made to the rear of the top pedestal cap which cannot be seen from the front. There are no extra holes in the case for either the movement or gong base...indicating that they are original to the clock. We've always liked the Ansonia "KING"'s and will keep this in our livingroon until its next owner comes along.
