Description:
Thic late 19th C oak cigar box or humidor measures almost 10" across x 6.5" deep x 4.25" h.
It is metal lined, what kind of metal I can't say for certain not being an expert. Note the Art Nouveau floral cut-outs. There is a section held in place at the rear of the box which pulls out. What its purpose is I don't know. The ornate silver plated decorations are intact. The fancy central medallion spells "CIGARS". The hinges have the patent dates of July 1st 1890. The lock & key are new, the box came to me without them. They are in keeping with the style & are of the highest quality. The ornamental lock surround is original. I believe that someone long ago pried this box open & in doing so slightly damaged the wood to the right of the lock creating a crack. The humidor is otherwise sound and will easily last another 118 years.
