Description:
Welcome! For sale, a rare, antique genuine ivory back and handled beveled glass hand mirror. This is the real deal, pre-ban tusk ivory seen on old piano keys, NOT the Victorian French ivory celluloid seen on many old vanity items. I've tried to show the grain and cross-hatching in the close-ups. This mirror measures 9 1/2 inches long and 3 3/4 inches wide at the widest point, with an ivory thickness of about 9mm variable. The mirror is intact, but does have scratches to the glass in the lower half and some specky silvering loss in the upper half. T are two 1/2 inch hairline cracks in the ivory, one at the top starting at the glass and curving around the edge, and one at the bottom left starting at the glass and curving around the edge of the handle. T is also a lighter 1 3/4 inch hairline along the grain on the edge of the handle on the other side. The back of the mirror has light surface hatching and spotting of the type that can be seen only when held to the light. It could use a good gentle cleaning. It has a great old ivory patina to the back and handle. Email with any questions and thank you for taking a look.
