Description:
These three volumes from the Bureau of Ethnology of the
Smithsonian Museum include: the very rare 2nd Annual Report,
only the second in a series sponsored by the Smithsonian for
research into Native American culture. It contains a wealth of
information both written and visual. There are 77 listed plates
and 714 numbered figures both in black and white and color.
There are a total of 477 pages of text in addition to the pages
containing the illustrations. There are studies of Zuni Fetiches,
Myths of the Iroquois, Navajo Silversmiths, Art of the Ancient
Americas, and Illustrated catalogs of the collections obtained
from the Indians of New Mexico in 1879, and again in 1880. In
addition there are several folding maps. The second volume is
the 27th Annual Report from 1905-1906. It contains 677 pages
and is primarily descriptive of the Omaha Tribe, containing 64
full page plates, a complete title map and 132 additional
illustrations. The book is complete and in excellent condition,
having tight binding and free of torn or otherwise damaged
pages. The third volume is the 32nd Annual Report from 1910
-1911. This work, having 819 pages, contains the fiction,
traditions, legends and myths of the Seneca as collected by J.
Curtin and J.N.B. Hewitt. The nearly 800 pages of actual text
contain no figures or illustrations of any kind. The book's
condition is excellent with very tight binding and it is very clean.
