Description:
AN ORIGINAL 1980'S PORTRAIT OIL PAINTING OF TWO SHOE CRAFTSMEN An original oil painting portrait of two shoemakers with Mexican style hats on their heads. In this beautifully done portrait painting, the shoemakers sit diligently creating their handmade shoes, which appear to be wooden Dutch-style clogs. One man grasps the arm of the other as if to discuss some aspect of their work. They labor intensely in the warm dappled sunlight on two folding chairs in a mostly gray courtyard, with some climbing vines and succulent plants nearby. The artist has signed this work at the lower right, 'Sie Mendelson', and has created by hand a lovely solid wood frame to complement the painting, the frame of which he has also signed on the reverse. The frame is rather heavy, and has a gray patina with narrow inner gilt and white dimensional sections. Dimensions are 40.25" wide by 30.25" high, and condition of both the canvas and frame is excellent for their age, circa the 1980's.
