Description: Lovely little Tortoiseshell Pin box with pewter diagonal stripes. Originally used on a lady's dresser to hold pins, hair curls or other momentos. The Tortoiseshell is in excellent condition - no restoration - matching pieces that flow from top to bottom indicate that the same shell was cut into corresponding sizes when the box was designed.It sits on four little ivory button feet. The interior is also original - note the remnants of the red silk lining that has stiffened and pulled from the edges with age. The top is the tiniest bit loose, to be expected for a box this age, as the hinge has been in use for over a century. More photos available.
