Description:
Oh how I love this bracelet! Carved coral bars form a link bracelet that ends in wonderfully carved full figured dog with crossed front paws atop a bed of carved fruits, flowers and leaves. The Victorians loved symbolism and the dog depicted loyalty and fidelity. Was this a gift from a lover or husband promising to always be true? Or just the favorite jewel of a dog lover? I guess we will never know, but I do know it is just an incredible work of art and an amazing find for a canine lover today. The center medallion measures 2 ¼” wide by 1 ¾” long - the wonderful dog is realistically carved down to it’s floppy ears and tail and the fruits and flowers are beautifully carved as well. The bracelet measures 7 ½” x ½” and sits up an 1" from the wrist. It is finished with a push in clasp topped with a coral bead. Crafted of gold with a rich patina, it is marked on the tongue of the clasp with a hallmark that we have been unable to attribute, looks like a woman's head with the number 007. In overall excellent condition with some natural imperfections in the coral but no chips, cracks or missing pieces. Circa 1880, certified to be as described and to be authentic antique jewelry.
