Description:
Signed on mat, recto, below image. Wynn Bullock (1902 - 1975) was an American photographer that is notable for his photographs of nudes and landscapes on the West Coast. He began as a concert tenor, but while studying in Paris was inspired by visual artists, in particular Cézanne, Moholy-Nagy and Man Ray. Upon his return to the US, he studied photography and in 1948 met and began a lifelong friendship with Edward Weston, a relationship that continually influenced his life as a photographer. Bullock was also a serious student of philosophy, and wrote about his evolving ideas on harmony, perception, truth, and purpose in the realm of the arts. He saw photographs as symbols, evoking "events" or qualities of the interactions of space and time and not restricted nominal subject matter. Bullock's photographs are in over 90 museum collections.
